Branthwaite Badminton Club was formed in the season 1969/70 when Creeak BC joined with Catholic BC. Creeak had been playing in the Kendal Market Hall while the Catholic Club was playing in Crook. It was decided to rename the club after the road which was midway between them namely "Branthwaite" brow. From around 1973 we won the first division title for 10 or 12 years running (depending upon whom you speak to), but those heady days are only a cherised memory now. In 1982 we began playing at the new Leisure centre with its mixed blessing. Next season we will have one team in the first division and two in the second. Several of our top players play for the county but still come down to club night which normally has a decent turnout and is of a good standard. One couldn't describe the club without mentioning Johnny Oliver, our Olympic gold medal veteran, Chairman, Treasurer, Shuttle coordinator and heart of the club. We welcome new members to what we think is a friendly and strong club. Oh and by the way we hope to start a juniors group next year.
